I’m launching a Substack! Check it out here, and follow along.

It may not feel like it, but happy endings are possible.

Or maybe it does feel super possible to you. Maybe you’re a huge optimist! In that case…I salute you, tell me your ways, and read on to see any of this resonates.

1. What the heck is this newsletter?

I’m gonna be real with you: I’m in a weird place right now. My three self-published books are out! My neurodivergent queer romcom is on sub! I’m quitting my job?? I’m moving wherever my partner gets into grad school???

It’s a weird time. So I’m taking a moment to gather my thoughts and share them with you. There are a few newsletters I really enjoy and get value out of (and I’ll be sharing links to them in future newsletters!), but none that quite touch on the things that matter most to me. Which, obviously, means it’s up to me.

To whit: we’re gonna talk about doom. We’re gonna talk about falling in love. We’re gonna talk about climate change and AI apocalypses and progress and how they collide with each other, and how romance novels (and all kinds of novels) speak to the human experience. We’re going to talk about how accepting the reality of climate change is like accepting the death of a loved one, in those first overwhelming days, over and over and over forever. And about how you can’t stop trying just because success is extremely unlikely. And also about falling in love some more.

2. Are you terrified of climate change? Are you confused about AI? Do you read romance novels (in hiding or publicly)?

I want you here. And if you’re into only one of those things and thinking “How on Earth can these be related?”, welcome to the inside of my mind, where they are all going on at full speed and full volume at all times. It all fits together better than you might think.

Or I hope it does, anyway.

I want to hear about your climate anxieties and relationship woes in equal measure. And I hope you’ll follow me along on this journey as I try to face the world.

3. So what will this be?

I’m just starting out. In this moment, I feel so bursting with ideas that I could put out a newsletter every single day and not get tired, but I know that’s not actually true (and you wouldn’t want it!). Here’s the vision:

Every two weeks, you open your inbox.

It’s a new email from me! Lucky you!

It has an essay about my three obsessions, all mashed together. But perhaps more fun, it has a list of things that are shaping my life, and could shape yours:

  • Listening to: a podcast and a song (or an album)
  • Reading: a book, a longform article, and a short article
  • Watching: a TV show, YouTube video, or movie
  • Following: drama in one of my three fields of interest (you’d be shocked how much there is)
  • Creating: my latest project
